Flappy Birds, Journalism and the Environmental Agency

As the media whip themselves up into a frenzy about floods, flooding and the end of the world. Lets spend a thought for The Environmental Agency.

An Agency that has been stripped of resources and cash during honest Dave's lets try and sort out the economy fiasco is now being blamed for floods and not dredging rivers.

The Somerset levels back in the sixteenth century were marshes and it is only human intervention that has prevented them being so ever since. So when the EA whose cash pot has been vastly dwindled, has no money to dredge rivers (and whether this is the only action that can prevent flooding is also up for debate) it spends its money in other places were flooding is a greater risk, like cities.

So the argument now becomes one of City Folks v Country Folks.

And the city folks are busy being distracted by another Bird Game.

I am looking forward to the day when news is just that, news. Its not sensationalist, it is not biased, it is not distorted or tweaked and it doesn't apportion blame and isn't looking to sell column space. It wont rely on celebrity or looks or wealth, it will be just that, news.

Unfortunately this isn't going to happen whilst i am around, so I suggest all the journalists go to the levels and the rest of us can pray for some more rain....

On another note i was watching the Snowboarding yesterday and raise a glass to young Jonsey, a fine act. Shame the commentators sounded more like Radio 1 DJ's
